It’s been a hot minute since we last posted anything involving our captain hook, Colin Munroe . Well thanks to DJ Enuff, we can change that.

Munroe does what he does best on this new Statik Selektah joint. Add a couple verses from Bun B and Wale and a smooth jazz beat and you have a hit.

We’ll have to settle for a radio rip for now but keep on the look out for Statik Selektah’s “100 Proof” dropping Feb. 2.

Yelawolf, who probably was the biggest snub on our 5 Hip-Hop Artists to Look for in 2010 post, released a new mixtape to bring in the new year.

“Trunk Muzik” is a 12-track mixtape containing all new cuts. With appearances by Bun B, Raekwon, and Juelz Santana, “Trunk Muzik” makes for a good listen.

XV x Mike Posner x Bun B x GLC – Mirror’s Edge (Benzi Remix)

After some delays here and there, XV’s song “Mirror’s Edge,” off his mixtape, “Everybody’s Nobody,” was remixed by DJ Benzi, and finally released.

The tempo gets slowed down a tad, Mike Posner gets on the hook, and there’s new verses by Bun B and GLC in addition to XV.

First up is Bun B, whom when I first took a look to who’s on the track I was a little discouraged about. I felt like his style wouldn’t mesh that well with the other three guys on the track. Well, it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be, but I still stand by the belief that they should have gotten a different rapper to fill out the bill.

Next up is GLC, whose style to me is Bun B meets XV, so he is actually a happy medium as the transitional verse between the two.

XV sang the original hook and I thought he was great, but getting Posner was a nice touch to the song. I also enjoyed the new stuff Posner brought to the song after the hook right before XV’s verse.

It’s a great song that just needs to get heard.

Recommended Mixtape: Donnis ‘Dairy of an ATL Brave’

It’s been a hot minute since we last featured an entire mixtape that you all should definitely download. What can I say? There hasn’t been anything catching my ears’ attention. Donnis ends the drought with his ‘Dairy of an ATL Brave,’ which dropped yesterday.

Donnis first became familiar to me off Mike Posner’s ‘A Matter of Time’ mixtape where he appeared on ‘Smoke & Drive.’

I like his flow, and for some reason his voice sounds like a quieter and less angry P.O.S to me. Maybe I’m just crazy.

It’s evident that too many people are sleeping on Donnis, because his name deserves to be mentioned alongside names such as Wale, Big Sean, Mickey Factz and B.o.B. I’m not kidding.

Stand-out tracks are ‘Underdog,’ ‘I am Me,’ and ‘Ticket to the Moon.’

Features on the mixtape include Colin Munroe, Brandon Hines, Marsha Ambrosius, and of course, what mixtape wouldn’t be complete without an appearance by Bun B.

Recommended Mixtape: ‘B.o.B vs. Bobby Ray’

As we all patiently wait for Atlanta rapper B.o.B to release his debut album, ‘Adventures of Bobby Ray,’ he drops his latest mixtape, ‘B.o.B vs. Bobby Ray.’

The mixtape is split into two halves, to showcase the split personalities of the rapper, B.o.B and Bobby Ray. First half is B.o.B, the second belongs to Bobby Ray.

Like all B.o.B mixtapes, this one contains some great samples (There’s a great Three Dog Night one on this one). One thing different compared to other B.o.B mixtapes on this one is all the guest spots.

Asher Roth, Charles Hamilton, Mickey Factz, T.I., Bun B (the Lil’ Wayne of mixtapes) can all be found alongside B.o.B.

Song highlights include, “One,” “I am the Man,” “Wonderland,” and “No Man’s Land.”

Overall, I would say this is a close second to Wale’s ‘Back to the Feature’ for mixtape of the year so far.

I provided the link to the No DJ Drop verision of the mixtape, because I know that we’re all sick of hearing Don Cannon interrupt songs with him saying his name.
