The Urbanian Rocks Bowling Green, Ohio with Mike Posner

mikeposnerclazel copyAn up-and-coming music star rolled through Bowling Green, Ohio, on the night of Jan 21. Anxious kids were walking around Main Street in the downtown area trying to pass some time until the show. As the energy slowly built around town for an evening of new-bred pop music, The Clazel Theatre was fully prepared.

The Clazel is the ideal venue for a college crowd and an artist such as Posner. With 50 beers on tap and a full-circle bar along with another bar on the side, it takes little-to-no time to grab a drink when you want one. Also present inside are two elevated platforms with one on each side of the theatre aimed towards the stage. This gives the V.I.P guests an elevated look and a clear shot to watch Posner do his thing. The Clazel also has an extremely-friendly staff and owner, and even the bouncers are easy to approach.

There were four opening acts before Posner went on. They were respectable openers and one threw down an excellent track going in over Passion Pit’s “Sleepyhead.” Even though the openers were entertaining, you could tell the crowd wanted Posner. “Posner, Posner, Posner,” the crowd would chant. This happened not only between songs, but also during.

Around 12:30 a.m. Posner finally appeared on the stage. All the girls lining the front row immediately started to yell louder and hopelessly reached out their arms, trying to get a touch of him. He stared off into the crowd, as they just got louder and louder. Finally he turned off to the side where his keyboard was waiting for him and started to play “Drug Dealer Girl.”

Everyone knew every word to every song Posner did during his set. At times it felt like a battle between him and the crowd for who could get louder. He would of course go on to capture that victory, especially when he turned the bass way up and vibrated the entire building. Even up in the platforms, one could feel the vibrations.

The last song he performed was “You Don’t Have to Leave.” It really is the perfect closing song. Posner has to depart from the stage but the crowd doesn’t have to depart from the memories they made at the show that night. Once the song ended, Posner put on Eagle Eye Cherry’s “Save Tonight,” as he got the crowd to clap along, sang some of it, and slowly made his way off stage. With these two songs, the closing minutes of the show were spectacular and made for an exit to remember. “Everyone our age knows that song,” Posner said backstage when it was over.

The show was over and the crowd slowly dispersed. The ones that bought V.I.P tickets were able to go backstage and meet Posner for a couple minutes. He really is one of the nicest, most down-to-earth guys in the industry. Whenever given the chance to purchase tickets that include a meet-and-greet session, do it.

The way Posner captures crowds, along with his full confidence in himself and his music, makes his show one of the most entertaining around.
