Mysterious New M.I.A. Track

M.I.A. unexpectedly posted this new song/video 2 days ago via her twitter account. As there has been talk of a new 2010 M.I.A. effort, it wouldn’t have been completely bogus to believe that this track could be a teaser for the new album, Mission.Impossible.Area (rumored to be out between May and June of this year). While the track may end up on the album, it turns out that it was actually a reaction to the New York Times article that named Sri Lanka the number one travel destination for 2010. You can find some of her NY Times tweet bashing and the build up to the video post by viewing her official twitter page here. What’s even more interesting about this piece is that it was produced this past Monday night by Rusko and M.I.A. – and apparently it only set them back a cool $100.00.

The track is called “Space Odessey”, and it definitely sounds like a prelude to what could be another big album for Mathangi “Maya” Arulpragasam, who has put most of her energy into touring over the past couple of years since the release of Kala in 2007.
