Oh So Fresh Fridays [Vol. 5]

1. B.o.B. feat Bruno Mars – Nothing on You

Bee-Oh-Bee, Bobby Ray, whatever you know him by, the most important thing is that you know. Nothing on You is an ode about that O.G. miss that no one can match.  Lyrically crafted by the next big thing a.k.a. B.o.B. and hooked by the feathery smooth vocals of Bruno Mars this track will give your iTunes play count a work out.

2. Souls of Mischief – Proper Aim

Timeless. That about sums it up, Souls of Mischief that is. Boasting a vibe that is a true testament to 90’s hip hop, Souls of Mischief comes out firing after a 10 year hiatus with their new mix tape Montezuma’s Revenge. This track is glossed over with 90’s fusion and plucky bass simplicity that will take you back to high top Reeboks and flat tops.

3. The Whitest Boy Alive – 1517

I don’t know if it’s my insatiable love for piano driven tracks, or the sheer fluidity (is that a word?) of the electronic off-beat keys in this track, but give it a listen. The Whitest Boy alive is in fact, 4 very white Scandinavian boys coming to us from get this, Indonesia. Comprised of former Kings of Convenience members, The Whitest Boy Alive just feels right.

4. Wale feat. Marsha Ambrosious – Diary [acoustic version]

This drop is an acoustic version of Wale’s Diary featuring the soulful songbird Marsha Ambrosious. Put simply, this track flows like something that should come out of a music box. A more solemn, yet whimsical spin on the Attention Defecit hit. Hip hop is changing, rap is changing, and it’s tracks like this driving it into uncharted territory. I mean that in a good way.

5. Phoenix – Lisztomania (acoustic cover)

Going with the ostensibly acoustic theme it seems this week, here’s an acoustic version of Phoenix’s ever-popular Lisztomania. Haven’t heard of them? Listen, buy the album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix asap. Have heard? Listen anyways, and learn to enjoy Lisztomania again as I’m sure many have burnt out on it by now.

6. LMFAO ft. Lil’ Jon – Shots

Running the gamut is what we do. So after an indie hit, what better way to off set the scales than with the old school banger meets new school banger hybridization that is Shots with LMFAO feat. Lil Jon. Granted it’s been out for a minute, it’s Friday so…Enjoy. Play this anywhere, any time, people will drink, chaos will ensue. See video
