Afropunk Presents: Saul Williams & Guests

Saul Williams made his way to Detroit on Monday, Oct. 26, to rock the Magic Stick.

I attended the concert by myself, and still had loads of fun. Joining Williams that evening were American Fangs, Amp Fiddler, and Krak Attack.

100_1738All four acts showed tremendous energy on stage, which made the crowd show tremendous energy as well.

American Fangs is band with a punk and metal fusion sound, and they were definitely entertaining to watch and listen to. I talked to the lead singer for a quick minute after their set and bought their CD they were selling. For only five dollars, it was a steal. Check them out.

Amp Fiddler amazed me as well. He brought the funk and soul to the show. I recommend you check him out. Plus he’s from Detroit!

100_1773Krak Attack was so hype. Climbing up the speakers to get to the ceiling, to then grab the pipes to hang above the crowd and then shimmy his way across was super dope. They offered up some great hyped hardcore rap to get everyone prepared for Williams.

Seeing Williams live was very important to me. The guy is less of a rapper and more of a poet. He’s creative, innovative, smart and just damn inspirational. He manages to blend all kinds of music into his own unique sound and style.

Here’s a video I took of him performing probably his most popular song, ‘List of Demands.’ As you can tell I got a sweet spot to enjoy the show, front and center.
