Making sense of the Kanye – VMAs Debacle

The fish-stick loving, voice of our generation, Kanye West was up to more shenanigans at last night’s MTV Video Music Awards.

West is already known for his off-script comment about George Bush not caring about black people, and his five-year-old like response at that fact that his ‘Touch the Sky’ music video was beat out by Britney Spears at the European MTV video awards.

The first award of the night was Best Female Video, and it went to the country pop music star, Taylor Swift. Judging by her reaction when she heard her name, she was rather surprised. From the few words she managed to sputter out before West made his way to the stage, she mentioned that she didn’t think she would win because she sings country music. Get over yourself Swift. You make pop music with a hint of country twang. You are nothing more than a pop artist.

Getting back on track, West got on stage, grabbed the mic, and said that Beyonce should have won, then left the stage.

What the hell? First off, is everyone that scared of West to just let that all unfold? Swift could have resisted, or that werewolf dude from the 13-year-old vampire shindig could have step forward and interfered.  It amazes me that no one did anything at all. This award ceremony is already a joke, and it just became an even bigger one.

APTOPIX MTV Video Music Awards ShowNow on to this disrespectful, most unprofessional person in music, West. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to state your opinion, but you just choose the wrong time to do it. Swift is like 19-years-old, and this is her first Moonman. She has the nation’s everyone under the age of 15 attention, let her speak.

However, West turned out correct. Later that night, Beyonce went on to win Video of the Year. Huh? How is someone nominated for Female Video of the Year lose, but then go on to win Video of the Year? I’m sorry but that doesn’t make sense. If she truly has the best music video of the year (In MTV’s eyes at least), shouldn’t she have easily won Best Female Video. This is just more proof of MTV being cracked out. Not to forget that fact that the Beyonce video is indeed stupid and horrible, just like the song.

What are we left with? Katy Perry and Pink cursing out West on Twitter, an all caps apology by West on his blog, an upset, but probably not really Swift, and thousands of people blogging and stating who they’re siding with on the debacle (I’ve already seen people bring race up as an issue in this, shame on you people. Seriously).

What side am I on? I remain neutral. I do believe West was horribly disrespectful, but he turned out to be right.

What will become of all this? I see this playing out like the David Letterman joke controversy about Sarah Palin’s daughter. There’s going to be a little uproar about it, but in the end, it just won’t matter and it will all be forgotten about. This is just more Kanye being Kanye.
