Each year, 21% of fatal car crashes involving teenagers between the ages of 16 and 19 were the result of cell phone usage. Usage of which is increasing on average of 4% per year. We’ve all heard it, driving while texting has bitch slapped drunk-driving off it’s pedestal as the thing you really shouldn’t do while driving.
However, nothing has quite personified such facts and statistics as this PSA produced by Gwent Police Department in Wales. They’ve managed to take a PSA and make it almost a beautiful opener into either : A. Horror Film or B. Sean of the Dead 2. Warning, not for the faint of heart. Enjoy. I did.

This is disturbing.
August 27th, 2009 at 6:12 am
Quick! Somebody text for an ambulance!
August 27th, 2009 at 7:17 am
This is required viewing for new driver and especially teenagers. I just bought my step-daughter a car last week.. SHOW THIS TO YOUR KIDS.
August 27th, 2009 at 7:20 am
This is exactly what teenagers need. A strong dose of reality. A strong dose of “see! it CAN happen to you!”. Teens believe that they are invincible. They play their music loud, text and talk on the phone, laugh and play with a vehicle like it is a Tonka toy. They need to realize that their actions can affect not only them, but other people. And it’s not just teens, (although they are the prime culprits) I have a 26 year old brother who texts on the freeway. I showed this to my sister, she just recieved her driving permit and she is 16. She is a very safe driver, however, as you see in the video it’s not just one person. This isn’t creepy or weird or too disturbing. This is what the world has become. A reality show. And teens and adults alike need a HUGE dose of reality, and that reality is you aren’t invincable.
August 27th, 2009 at 7:29 am
It doesn’t matter if you show this to kid’s they are just stupid and won’t listen anyway. All you can do is hope when not if but when they are on the road doing something stupid you can avoid them.
August 27th, 2009 at 8:12 am
i am a teen and i just got my permit yesterday lucky enough im not stupid enough to text …i am the only one in my family who dosent text because i dont want it to consume my life …all of my friends….every day …texting …is well a way of communication that people take advantage of….most other teens will see this and say……oh that wont happen to me …ill be extra careful when i Text&Drive but i am afraid to even drive at all
August 27th, 2009 at 8:17 am
For years, I advanced the fact that the greatest threat to the driving public is telephoneing and texing while driving. Yet, MADD harps on OVI, while its members talk and tex all the way down the highway while claiming to look for drunk drivers. If you and/or the government is interested in saving my life, get the telephone and texing devices out of cars. I have never been hit by a drink driver (usually I am home when they come out.) I have been hit in the rear twice in the last 5 years by someong on the phone.
August 27th, 2009 at 8:27 am
unfortunately too true – shoould be manditory viewing for all drivers, teens or adults
August 27th, 2009 at 8:31 am
This Video should be mandatory viewing for all of our school children.
Elementary thru College.
August 27th, 2009 at 8:33 am
This video was very disturbing, but extremely powerful. It is great that this was produced. Texting while driving is absolutely horrible. I’ve caught myself quickly texting something while driving and i have to admit it is extremely irresponsible. Please show this to your teens, and your adult friends who text.
We need to stop texting, and even speaking on the phone. There is plenty of time to communicate after we are done driving. Lets just make a commitment to DRIVE, and pay attention to the road. Nothing else…..

August 27th, 2009 at 8:44 am
yes it’s disturbing but it makes a valid point. If it gets the point across then maybe someone’s life will be saved. That seems to be more important, doesn’t it?
August 27th, 2009 at 8:48 am
Thanks to our media, i.e. film, news, etc., the audience at whom this is aimed is unfortunately desensitized to such images. While disturbing to the older crowds, this is mere child’s play to teenager’s these days. I sincerely doubt it will have much of an impact at all. Nice try though.
August 27th, 2009 at 9:15 am
I have been working in the ER of a level one trauma center for over 25 years. Teens (as well as the rest of the general public), really don’t realize the magnitude of the responibility we posess when behind the wheel, or the consequences of a split second mistake. As difficult as this may be to watch, I think that it carries a dose of reality, which we all need to be reminded of. I have always told my kids that when you get behind the wheel, you are not ony responsible for yourself and your passengers, but everyonone else on the road that you come in contact with.
August 27th, 2009 at 9:18 am
Very well done. It should be upsetting. Every home with a young driver should watch. Thanks.
August 27th, 2009 at 9:36 am
That was me a few weeks ago. Texting on my phone and not paying any attention and I drove right into a fire hydrant, in the process totaling my car and accumulating some serious legal problems.
If I would have seen this PSA, it might have done some good.
August 27th, 2009 at 9:38 am
I will give credit for the truth of it
All die except the asshole who created the accident, she lives to be stupid another day
August 27th, 2009 at 9:39 am
That’s not even a little disturbing. You want disturbing PSAs? Try this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjJCdBohRPk
August 27th, 2009 at 9:41 am
I don’t find this disturbing, I do however, think it’s a good piece of information and very well done.
August 27th, 2009 at 9:43 am
Scare the shit out of the kids, thats always the answer to making them obey.
August 27th, 2009 at 9:48 am
Ive driven drunk and texted on separate occasions, and on a few occasions, both at the same time. I must be an exception to the rule.
August 27th, 2009 at 10:02 am
Kevin, you’re my hero.
August 27th, 2009 at 10:07 am
this is a good video and a great message. Too bad even the people that watch this will still likely text while driving.
The texts and calls AREN’T that important people – that’s why we have voice mail and the texts will be there when you park the car.
I think we all need to start “cellvacations” from time to time.
August 27th, 2009 at 10:07 am
The song playing during the crash makes it chilling… just another fact of life that everyone tries to forget. Just like hockey, gotta keep your head up kid!
August 27th, 2009 at 10:19 am
i love you kevin smith. but this is a big deal, i’m driving right now. i’m gonna twitter about it. everyone should watch.
August 27th, 2009 at 10:21 am
It’s unfair to say only teens are effected by this. Me being a teen, I know of SEVERAL adults who text and drive also, so to all you parents who are saying teens need this it’s a wake up call. EVERYONE needs to see this, drivers, non-drivers. If your in the car with someone who is texting and driving, take their phone and offer to make the text for them, it is a way to fix the problem in a non confrontational way.
August 27th, 2009 at 10:53 am
Just a thought maybe if they were all driving cars larger than matchbox cars they wouldnt have horrific injuries. i.e. Small “green” cars will increase vehicle fatalities
August 27th, 2009 at 11:10 am
You know, i think texting is terrible while driving and all and this video is disturbing, but needs to be shown. But i love how people here are acting like only TEENS are bad drivers.
90 percent of people on the road, regardless of age, gender, race, etc are terrible drivers/do stupid things while driving.
August 27th, 2009 at 11:35 am
I don’t think they should show this to anyone until they rework the sound mix during the crash.
August 27th, 2009 at 12:08 pm
The only thing disturbing about this PSA is how laughably bad it is… your average teen will hit “Next” and move on to the new Grand Theft Auto video game. If you want to scare people, you need a production budget and narrative techniques better than a SyFy Saturday piece of schlock. “OMG, ROTFL!!!” is not the response this commercial is soliciting, but it is the one it is getting.
If anything, this PSA proves the generational gap is greater than originally thought. Maybe next time, Wales.
August 27th, 2009 at 12:16 pm
I like the idea of scaring children by showing a lot of people dying, but by the end of this clip I forgot all about the texting thing.
It should be shorter. Girl texting, car crash, head smashed, organs hanging out and scene.
They need to do that for smoking and drunk driving. The people with the car/helmet full of booze just makes me think about how they did that. The thing that stopped me from drunk driving was seeing friends loose thousands of dollars in attorneys fees, classes, fines and insurance rates.
Remember before TV when parents had to talk to their kids… yuck!!
August 27th, 2009 at 12:33 pm
Unfortunately you show this to a teen today and all they’ll see is something out of their favorite horror film. They’ll think the blood and gore is cool, laugh at the crying girl, and want to see more. I don’t believe this will sink into their heads at all.
August 27th, 2009 at 1:13 pm
I think all should watch this a couple times atleast. Make your kids watch it and watch it with them..enough of this stupid texting while driving shit. If someone injured my familly because of something stupid like this the courts would be their last concern. I would be the worst threat to them. Oh and to hell with all you goody two shoes fools that think this should not be seen. Whst if it were your child that did it or died because of it. How would you feel then? This WILL!! save lives and is a good PSA.
August 27th, 2009 at 1:16 pm
Its adults that pretend that kids are totally different from themselves that is the problem. Stop acting as if teenagers are idiots or aliens. Read some of these comments.
Raise your kid not to be an airhead, and he will be fine. We don’t need psa’s. Kids are like adults; they will do what they want. Watching this won’t change anything.
August 27th, 2009 at 1:29 pm
I was actually just telling my parents about this the other day, saying how you don’t see stuff like this on TV around here (Canada) and that I think we need to. Although it reminded more of an opening sequence for the next Final Destination Movie more than a PSA I think it gets it’s point across. I think the most disturbing part for me was the dead baby but that’s probably just because I’m a new mother. Everyone who owns a cell phone should watch this whether they’re teens or not and even if the kids are laughing about this, it’s still in their heads and they’ll tell their friends to check out this uber lame video. At least the message is getting out there.
August 27th, 2009 at 2:14 pm
the real issue was everyone was driving on the wrong side of the road. texting actually helped her find her way into the lane she should have been in to begin with
August 27th, 2009 at 2:46 pm
Stupid brits!
August 27th, 2009 at 3:17 pm
Haha, too bad the sound effects of them ’squishing’ into the car doors and windows sound like they came froma looney tunes cartoon. Seriously, the sound effects alone made me laugh. How can any teenager take this seriously?
August 27th, 2009 at 9:25 pm
Texting might be the new dumb fatal thing to do while driving but it’s definitely not a teen thing. When I was 16, some of my friends were good drivers and some of them were fucking abysmal at it–for the most part that hasn’t changed, except that now the bad drivers have another unnecessary task to shovel onto their heap of bad driving habits.
August 27th, 2009 at 9:52 pm
This is not just teen problem. I am 31 and do it myself. I know that it shouldn’t be done, but this PSA DOES bring it more into focus. It’s not so much the blood and gore in this video, but the mere concept of it. True while the media today has made blood and loss of life trival, the idea that this PSA gets across is more than enough to make anyone with half a brain sit up and take notice. Now that I have the smaller details of this video in my head,(like the dead baby) I will certainly think twice about texting while driving. The cynical voices out there may scoff, but the law of averages will sadly catch up to them. We can only pray that common sense catches them first.
August 28th, 2009 at 5:08 pm
This is only a problem for lame teenagers. Cool teenagers can text without looking at the cellphone, because they have so much practice.
(Please, don’t take me seriously.)
August 30th, 2009 at 12:20 am
if u really want to give your kids a strong dose of reality, show them a video with two elderly gents bumping uglies. cuz that will no doubt happen to them, and sooner than later it will happen to YOU! while we are on the reality train, lets start teaching sex ed in pre-primary school. With their little wee wees and all that. the ethly ollows arry!
August 30th, 2009 at 5:18 pm
teens and adult like will watch this frist reaction will be oh my god and then aweek or so later thay’re back to textint and driving
August 30th, 2009 at 5:25 pm
As a fourteen year old girl anticipating to drive herself, I can honestly say I would never text or talk on the phone while driving – this video already confirms my fears of what would happen if I didn’t drive safely. It does kinda bother me how some of you are stereotyping my age group, though… and it’s not only kids who do this too, by the way. I see adults talking on their cell phones all the time in the car, and both me and my mom agree that THEY’RE the idiots; it’s up to THEM to enforce the teenaged drivers who do that themselves.
August 30th, 2009 at 5:36 pm
’sniffle sniffle’ its so sad just immagine ur little siter that only 6 months old dead your friends dead you seriously injured you little 5 year old siter is ok but she sad because both of your parents…-dead immagine that but immagine it being all your fault justt over a litlle text now immagine how u feel…. my name is ronbon i have just one thing to say, the whole point of a text is so you can answer it later so take your time wait till you get out of the car, pull over , have some else answer the text, and stay safe ’sniffle’ . and if its a call use hnds free devices… and about the radio, its there to enjoy at a low volume leave it so you can hear it but also hear your surroundings please take my advice be a safe driver and eyes on the road!
August 30th, 2009 at 5:37 pm
To all the people who say that teens are stupid should be ashamed of your selves, Teens arn’t stupid at all they learn from everything ie: parents, friends, TV, ect… So before you go and say teens are stupid maybe if the media and parents paid more attention to this epidemic teens would pay more attention, as far as the video goes its a good video i believe it should be linked to every site that teens and adults mostly visit.
August 30th, 2009 at 5:43 pm
Its fake
August 30th, 2009 at 6:34 pm
…yes, teens are stupid. as every adult has posted here, kids are stupid, but many don’t appreciate how you don’t give them the chance to be treated like adults. parents keep treating them like kids, text them MORE, that’s the reason the get into trouble, stop with keeping tabs on them all the time, if you trust them to drive, leave them alone while they do it. i truthfully bet half the time parent have something to do with it, why does it matter if it’s a ‘friend’ texting as opposed to you. they all see these movies in driver’s ed, why is this one so great? it’s horribly made.
August 30th, 2009 at 6:43 pm
its not bad, but parents think twice.
August 30th, 2009 at 7:08 pm
This proves a point about not texting while driving AND about wearing your seatbelt.
August 30th, 2009 at 7:09 pm
im a paramedic, its pretty forward but it is te truth! iv seen worse because of it, its simple dont be an idiot, and its sad they had to make this video this bad to get a point across!
August 30th, 2009 at 7:26 pm
Show this to your kids and talk to them about this. Show them that you love them and care about them. This could happen to you! Life is short and we can only protect the ones we love. It doesnt happen to others it happens to YOU & YOUR LOVED ONES. Pass this on.
August 30th, 2009 at 7:56 pm
ryan you had me crying with your wrong side of the road comment hahaha. and then i read petes lame and cool teenagers comment and almost died laughing again. thx for the hilarious comments….and whoever wrote hurry text 911 hahaha…..how funny.
and why did the girl in the passengers seat die if SHE WAS WEARING HER SEATBELT!!!! hmm
August 30th, 2009 at 7:57 pm
This public service announcement needs to be seen by everyone. To let everyone know how dangerous it is to drive a smartcar. These things kill more people than anything else on the road.
Kids, if your going to text and drive, make sure you are in a SUV or a hummer so the only people that get hurt are the people you run into.
Smartcars and texting don’t mix.
August 30th, 2009 at 8:18 pm
Yes, teenagers do really stupid shit sometimes. But I cant believe the gall of some of these people on here saying its just teens who do this. That bull and you know it. Countless times I have witnessed “upstanding adult members of society” partaking in this dangerous activity. In fact the very people who are supposed to enforce safe driving are regularly caught on their own cell phones texting and talking. Just 2 years ago a 17 year old kid died because a 35 year old man got too comfortable behind the wheel and was on his phone and didnt see the kid pulling out. Slammed into him at 74 miles per hour. Not only was he texting, he was going almost 35 mph past the legal limit. Its not only teens, older adults who have had years behind the wheel simply get too comfortable and think they can handle multitasking on the road. I think EVERYBODY should watch this, teens and adults.
August 30th, 2009 at 8:42 pm
This is a great video. It should be shown DAILY to all drivers ed students. Were talking about saving lives here. Life is to precious to be risked over something thoughtless or careless. There are no second chances.
August 30th, 2009 at 8:56 pm
I lold, serves the stupid bitch right.
August 30th, 2009 at 9:13 pm
Somebody call the WAAAAAHHHMBULANCE
August 30th, 2009 at 10:05 pm
“teenagers are horrible!” elders do it too,k thanks.
incredibly disturbing and in my opinion, offensive. (reminds me of Sean of the Dead, laughable and slightly gruesome)it didn’t need to be so gory…or long.
August 30th, 2009 at 10:07 pm
Very compelling video. Of course there are many adults who drive carelessly, but catch them early, as teens, and hopefully you can stop poor habits BEFORE they start. Showed this video to my son who just got his permit and he said they showed scarier stuff in drivers ed. Good. I’ve always told him that driving is a HUGE responsibility. You’re basically in a 2500 lb bullet. He’s a smart and responsible kid, but i wanted to drive (no pun intended) home my point. Many people think kids don’t listen, but be persistent, they just act as if they don’t hear. If your kid laughs at this video, keep hold of your car keys. It’s our duty as a parent to do everything we can to protect and prepare them for life.
August 30th, 2009 at 11:46 pm
For all of you saying it won’t sink into a teens head, you don’t understand how wrong you are. I am a teen, and I do text while I drive, and on more than one occasion I’ve found myself veering off the road. Luckily I don’t ever start to move into on coming traffic, but it’s only a matter of time. Watching this video gave that really deep sinking feeling in my stomach and is seriously changing my mind about what I do while I drive. I also play games with killing and gore, racing games with big crashes, watch horror films and make jokes about everything under the Sun. However, that doesn’t mean this didn’t affect me at all. Not to mention if someone is laughing at the crying girl after all of this they need more than a PSA, time to see a psychiatrist about your screwed up thoughts. Anyway, great video. Should really leave a lasting impression.
August 31st, 2009 at 1:01 am
This really puts the message through that you shouldn’t text or call whilst driving. Also, it’s “Shaun of the Dead” not “Sean of the Dead”
August 31st, 2009 at 1:27 am
I lol’d
August 31st, 2009 at 3:12 am
HAHAHAHA THOSE CUNTS GOT MEGA OWNED!!!! MAYBE IF THEY WERENT TEXTING AROUND TRYIN TO FIND SOME DICK TO SUCK THAT WOULD HAPPEN..

August 31st, 2009 at 10:34 pm
This is good, even if many do not listen if this ends up saving a single young life it has done its has done its job. Keep it up

Not sure how I feel about this…as a parent of two teens (that do exceptionally well in school, are articulate and intelligent, in most ways) that drive (and, consequently, have gotten tickets and in small fender-benders already in spite of the intelligence factor), I’m not sure the idea sinks in that “this can happen to me.” In fact, given what I see on the road as a driver myself, from adults, I don’t get the impression that too many drivers get the message that IT CAN HAPPEN TO YOU. To me, this video is simply sensationalizing tragedy, I’m not sure that it will stop the problem. The bigger problem seems to be missing…a sense of entitlement by many drivers on the road…the thought that wherever I am going is more important than being safe, a sense of “get out of my way because I don’t care what you have to do, what I have to do is more urgent,” even if it’s just going to the mall. Until ALL drivers…teens and those who are older (and should know better) decide that caring about others is important enough to stop being careless, thoughtless, reckless on the road due to selfishness, stupidity will continue.
September 1st, 2009 at 10:23 pm
I, as a teenager, don’t text behind the wheel personally. And many kids do these days. They need a real hit of realization of what could potentially happen… Sadly, this seems to be the only way to get the point across. This video is growing in popularity all over the Internet, including Youtube, which is accessed by teens by the millions every day. I hope this voices what your parents, teachers, and other people around you have been trying to tell you before. Because if it doesn’t, it soon might be too late for you.
September 1st, 2009 at 11:02 pm
Who is this STUPID when they text and drive? THese girls weren’t even looking at the road at all. I looked at the road more than my phone when I text while driving.
September 2nd, 2009 at 1:32 pm
this is very true. but i think adults have no reason to critize teens.
WE ALL do things that we’re not supposed to do while driving.
so don’t look at this video and connect this to teenagers.
think about when you are dialing a number on the interstate or when you are putting on makeup on your way to work.
we all are at fault. teenagers are not the only people who get in accidents. i don’t care how long you have been driving. this video needs to be a wake up call to EVERYONE
September 2nd, 2009 at 2:13 pm
its called t9 you dont need to look at your phone while your texting….
September 2nd, 2009 at 2:23 pm
If these videos really worked as a deterent, the ones that we all need to watch on drunk driving and driving under the influence should be enough to deter anyone from DUI, but it hasn’t. All these videos really do is draw us into drama that none of us really need. And by seeing these videos over and over again, eventually it just desensitizes us to the message, which is really what is important.
September 2nd, 2009 at 8:47 pm
This video is awesome. It highlights the realities of natural selection. I have come to understand it is not a tragedy when dumb bitches get themselves killed while doing something stupid.

September 4th, 2009 at 2:19 am
this was good as a teen myself with experience of lost friends due to txting. i reminded me why txting should be against the law when driving. it was kind disturbing but it needs more death blood and a bit more realism. most teens would think this was a joke
September 4th, 2009 at 10:29 am
WoW! that was sweet is that a scene from the new final destination movie. thats not gonna work on many people no matter ow many times you show it. People are only going to stop doing it when it happens to them or somebody they know. But it looks sweet great quality Blood!

I recently came across a blog post in consumer reports about a new free mobile phone application to help combat distracted driving called DriveSafe.ly that reads your texts and emails to you while you are driving.
It looked pretty interesting so I tried it. I have a BlackBerry and it has really helped me when I’m on the road because it keeps me from texting while driving. It works through my Bluetooth and it can actually send an auto-response to the sender. I’ve had some fun with customizing the auto-response messages. I’m not that technical but it’s easy to use. I recommend people checking out http://www.DriveSafe.ly
