We all listen to music for various reasons. We all have our favorite artists for various reasons. Some people may listen to certain artists because of the emotion they put into the music. The Urbanian is here to set the record straight, and tell you five of the most emotional singer’s voices you’ll ever come across.

Reasoning: K’Naan, easily one of the best rappers out there, has the perfect voice for the songs he writes. Whether it’s the angst in his voice when singing about his home country of Somalia, or the breath of fresh hope in his voice in his songs of beauty, K’Naan hits all the right notes.
Evidence:

Reasoning: Whether singing in Icelandic, or the band’s made up language “Hopelandic,” Jonsi lends his voice to some of the most beautiful music you can possibly come across. I’ve read stories about Sigur Ros concerts of everyone in the crowd just crying. He has the voice to make you cry, the voice to make you self-reflect, or the voice that is like a lullaby, and help you lay in peace. Even if you can’t understand what the hell he is singing, his voice belongs in this category.
Evidence:

Reasoning: Gorbel seems to possess the ultimate loner sad, ready to breakdown voice. Often in songs, his voice seems pretty normal until reaching an emotional breakdown of his voice at the end or climaxes of certain songs. Gorbel’s voice makes it easy for anyone to connect to the pain he sings about.
Evidence:

Reasoning: Herlihy’s voice is one of the most depressing voices, which lends itself to some of the most depressing lyrics. There’s a certain calm sadness to it that is somewhat unexplainable for your eyes, and just must be absorbed by your ears. Even being armed with a sad voice, he’s able to put this sense of hopefulness to it in some of the band’s songs. But, what’s really depressing is the fact that this band broke up.
Evidence:

Reasoning: Possibly the most soulful and awesome voice in all of music. Think of a more masculine and better John Mayer. Whether it’s bolting out about being saved by woman, whimpering in the fact he still doesn’t know what love is, or saddening us about being empty, LaMontagne has the voice that other artists dream of.
Evidence:
Honorable Mentions:
Jason Mraz: He always seems so sincere about any topic he’s singing about.
Sage Francis: He always brings incredible energy to his songs
